Google Plans to Increase the Rank on Mobile-Friendly Sites

Don’t you love Google’s constant algorithm changes? Last year, Google began to rank websites based on mobile-friendliness. This meant that any website that was not mobile friendly on mobile search results would be penalized.

So, if you haven’t already heard, Google plans to update the mobile search results beginning in May 2016. This new update will increase the rank on all mobile friendly websites in order to help users find even more relevant information than before.

How Will the Update Affect My Website?

According to Google’s announcement, this new update will not affect existing mobile friendly websites; however, if your website is NOT mobile friendly (or you’re unsure) you can simply perform a Mobile-Friendly Test provided by Google.

If you still haven’t updated your website, it’s highly recommended to do so before May to avoid being penalized.

We all know that the digital world is constantly evolving, and that means that people are using their mobile devices more often than before when it comes to communicating and looking for information.

“In the USA, 94% of people with smartphones search for local information on their phones. Interestingly, 77% of mobile searches occur at home or at work, places where desktop computers are likely to be present.”

That’s why having a mobile friendly website is a crucial part of having an online presence.

Is a Mobile Friendly Website Required?

Having a mobile friendly website is certainly not a requirement, but in order for users to have a great experience on your website, it doesn’t hurt to create a welcoming environment and improve your ranking to be discoverable on search engines.

After all, users won’t be able to visit your site if it doesn’t rank high enough on Google for them to find it (you wouldn’t want that, right?).
