Since last week, we have been informed of a constant attack to Wordpress websites all around the net. It seems the attack attempts to connect to the wp-login.php file using “brute force” to be able to access to your administration panel.

Unnamed attackers are using more than 90,000 IP addresses to brute-force crack administrative credentials of vulnerable WordPress systems, researchers from at least three Web hosting services reported. At least one company warned that the attackers may be in the process of building a “botnet” of infected computers that’s vastly stronger and more destructive than those available today.

How to Keep Your Website Secure

Our recommendation for our Wordpress readers is that once you log in your website, change your password to something very strong (e.g. a mixture of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters like #, $, and &). Besides of changing your Wordpress password is also good to apply the following steps:

• Do not use “Admin” as you username. If you are already using this username, then create a new Administrator account immediately with a different username and password, log in with the new administrator account, and delete the previous “Admin” account.
• Update your website to its latest version. Updated versions of Wordpress include security patches to protect your website.
• Have a backup plan. There are many services to backup your website automatically from options to schedule backups to indicate for a full copy of your website or only its database.
